A story about "The Terror: A Novel" — 3 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Part ice adventure, part mystery and a whole lot of action in the middle don’t let it’s hefty size trick you into thinking that you will never be able to finish this one. Trust me. I was almost sad it had to end.

How "Letters to a Young Poet" changed my life — 9 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

” You are so young, so much before all beginning, and I would like to beg you, dear Sir, as well as I can, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.

Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to yo now, because you would not be able to love them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now.”

Fighting the war with books is “Dr.” Greg Mortensen’s life’s work and this book shows you how he struggled from just building one school to becoming the director of the Central Asia Institute which is committed to building dozens of schools in Central Asia. Mostly funded by Jean Hoerni in the beginning , this is how one man with the help of his friends can change the roots of extremism through education.

A thoroughly riveting read!

A story about "Olympos" — 18 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

You are supposed to read Ilium before this. This book is an epic conclusion to the saga that came before and although I read it in the wrong order, this book drew me in with it’s numerous references to Greek mythology, Proust, Joyce and Quantum transportation. Only a master such as Simmons can pull off an ambitious a book as this so beautifully. A must read for sci-fi fans!

A story about "Blankets" — 21 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t read a lot of comics. When I read this one, I can’t help but be blown away by all the amazing images Thompson draws in his autobiographical comic which tells of his relationship with his brother and his new found love. Also dealt in this novel is religion – Christianity in particular – about it’s mass mentality but mostly about it’s hypocrisy. This part resonated with me. Told in a non-linear time line, readers are drawn into the story with flashbacks and will come terms with the human condition and it’s struggle for meaning.

A story about "Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintainance" — 21 weeks ago

This is one of the books which you have to bite off a little at a time, chew on it and come back for more after that.To be sure, it’s language is simple but it’s ideas are complex enough sometimes to make you reread a line or two again. A journey to be remembered.

A story about "The rise of Endymion" — 24 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The concluding book in the Hyperion quartet needs to be read if only to bring some form of closure to this amazing series. In it, some loose ends from the first book, Hyperion are tied.

With the ending of the book also comes the terrible lost of a connection with all the characters so wonderfully protrayed in the book. Characters that seem like friends are lost. A tough separation from A. Bettik ,Aenea and Raul if you have been patiently following the tale for 3 books.

Truly spectacular!

A story about "Change of Heart" — 25 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

There is at the crux of the story a literal Change of Heart. Elements of Christianity and faith find it’s place in the book too in the form of the protagonist’s actions. Without giving too much away, he dramatically alters the lives of those around him. And as always with Picoult’s books, the end devastates. Great!

A story about "Endymion" — 25 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was a journey that began with Hyperion. The amazing tales of the seven pilgrims will forever leave it’s footprint in my mind. That said, you do not need to read Hyperion to appreciate the fascinating world Simmons created with Endymion. It does however give insight on why things are the way they are in Endymion.

Endymion is, on its own,a thoroughly exciting read – I almost did not want the tale to end.Thank goodness there is still Rise of Endymion. If I was not a fan of sci-fi before, I am now.
