A review of "South Park - The Passion of the Jew" — 3 years ago

Okay, I don’t really count this, but I figured I would mention it anyway. We rented this South Park DVD and I fell asleep during it. Some things on South Park are gems, and other things are just really dumb/offensive (i.e. the whole thing with Mel Gibson at the end… I didn’t get it).

for sentimental reasons — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I watched it all the time and I remember it being on TV a lot (probably WGN/channel 9). I remember watching it with my dad. I rewatched this with B on Friday because we both grew up loving it and hadn’t seen it in years. It’s crazy the things you can so vividly remember (SJP’s purple hair; the various options of Coca-Cola; the little alien; “compliance!”...) and other things you totally forget (such as, the total plot of the movie… I never knew WHY he was abducted or anything, but now it makes total sense, flimsy as it is).

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not what I expected. I expected to see a lot of violence, and also an edgier, documentary-type feel. Instead it was more movie-ish, and there was no violence. It was very watchable while still hitting hard. I don’t like gore and that was the #1 reason why I didn’t watch this sooner. I like that they kept the gore out of it while still expressing the violence that occured. ONE MILLION CORPSES. Unbelivable. And—Adam said he would never put me on a van and let me go without going with me. It was nice to hear.

gripe: I want to know why! — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s a documentary, so it’s hard to really rate this. Coupled with the fact that I only half-watched it, this isn’t an entirely accurate star rating. However, the questions I had were answered by Morgan Freeman with, “We don’t know why they do this, but…” I want to know WHY!! All in all, really beautiful footage of the penguins and scenery, and worth watching.

loved it! — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Anna told us she had a movie about some Irish men, and thought Adam would like it. I didn’t read up on it and had NO CLUE what she was bringing over yesterday. I had no idea what the movie was about except “Irish men” and so I was totally blown away. This movie is SO “me”. Adam LOVED it, which was nice, because rarely does he love things. At one point he was laughing so hard we had to pause the movie for him to stop laughing, and then rewind so we could watch it without his interruptions. He was like “we have to buy this! I have to watch this again and again!” There were just so many good parts. Seriously. I’m so glad Anna brought it over. Adam was like “I was hoping it wasn’t something we were going to have to humor her over!” Ha. I also loved that there was zero romance, I love that they could see they didn’t need some crap romance to jazz the movie up. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

A review of "End of the Spear" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is about famous missionaries who were killed while trying to spread God’s word to the Wauodani tribe and how their wives and children reached out to the tribe even after their husbands/fathers had been killed. I went and saw this with B and mom, and it was really good. I could have cried through the whole thing, but, I refrained. B left with mascara all over her face.

peaceful and powerful — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Thirty minutes into the movie, people started walking out of the theatre. At the end of the movie, people started leaving as soon as they thought it might finally be over. Meanwhile: I sat there and wished it would never end. You will either hate it, or love it. I fall into the latter. I could have watched it all night. It was peaceful and I felt transported. I know this sounds ridiculous but for some reason I was just in the right mindspace and it moved me.

lenscap — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

4 stars. Fun movie. Jude Law is an obvious plus, as is Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow. Sir Laurence Olivier was an interesting addon; at the end B said “I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!” She had been insisting it was him the whole time. Then she said something about Wuthering Heights, and I said “Didn’t you see one of the movie theatres in the movie itself was PLAYING Wuthering Heights?” We’re regular cinema detectives. Favorite line? “Lenscap.”

I fell asleep, but... — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Okay, I fell asleep a half hour before the end of the movie, so this isn’t an accurate rating. But it didn’t hold my attention enough to keep me awake, and the humor was funny, but hard to catch in the movie. I didn’t know much about it going in and I was confused. It was fun to see Matt Damon in that role, though.

worth the shimmy (sort of) — 3 years ago

I was at Mimi’s killing time, and this was on her TV. I watched 90% of it, I think I missed the first 10 minutes, and I found it pretty entertaining. Obviously only supposed to be taken at face value. Seeing Halle Berry in that outfit and her little catwalk shimmying at the end of the movie was worth it.
