A story about "Snow Cake" — 3 years ago
See a post on my blog as to how this film thawed the hearts of Reel Talk members.
Why I recommend "The Science of Sleep" — 3 years ago
It is a celebration of the joyfulness of the sorrow that is our lives.
A story about "Trust the Man" — 3 years ago
I had a laugh over a description of the movie by David Duchovy – “a chick flick with balls”. This was posted on his and the director’s blog @ http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/trusttheman/blog/.
More people should have been seen during development — 3 years ago
This story of a couple who decides to ‘see other people’ during their engagement, in order to statisfy the woman’s perception that she hasn’t slept with enough men in her live, has good comedic potential but falls apart rather quickly.
It’s a tough balance between comedy and that uncomfortable ackward feeling you get around the characters. The filmmakers also seemed to feel a need to fill things out by having a couple of side stories with the friends of the male lead that just didn’t seem to make the story any better in my opinion.
If you want to feel like you’re living the life of the devoid L.A.ian this might be a good fit for you.
Why I recommend "Harold and Maude" — 3 years ago
Watching this for the first time I couldn’t help but think how similar it was to ‘Fight Club’.
Not in any of the obvious ways that is, but in the way the main characters leave everyday society behind to find their own path. Plus the way they meet, here by going to random funerals – and in Fight Club it was the support groups.
Check it out.
Why I recommend "Boondocks: Because I Know You Don't Read The Newspaper" — 3 years ago
To me it felt like a modern day ‘Peanuts’, but with bite.
It’s not carried in our local newspaper so was pleased to have come across it. I love the young radical/revolutionary stance.
Why I recommend "Sex and Lucia (Unrated Edition)" — 3 years ago
It is an amazingly complex story that has many layers. Mezmerizing.
How "An Inconvenient Truth" changed my life — 3 years ago
Polar Bears are Drowning.
This is my new phrase aftering seeing this movie that for me is a nice little catch all for any environmental concern I have.
For me it was a powerful image (even if the actual image was some cheesy animation) that communicates so much.
Why I recommend "Grey Owl" — 3 years ago
This movie tells the true life story of a man who was before his time.
Although now remembered mostly for being a ‘fraud’ in that he was an englishman who lived as a “native american” (in Canada), he should be remembered for the message he spoke about the importance of preserving nature and lot being in such a rush all the time.
He told people during his lectures that “the money you get now, is not worth the price you’ll pay later” when it came to the damage the world was doing to the planet (cutting down the trees and trapping the beaver for it’s fur). This was his message in the 1930s. It’s too bad it still isn’t heard today.
