This is great if you approach it as pure entertainment, not as a historically accurate explanation of the Holy Grail story. It doesn’t put forward a single theory that hasn’t been suggested or claimed in the past, but it’s a rattling good yarn, and a real page-turner.

I believe this was written at the time of the so-called McCarthy ‘Witch hunts’ against suspected Communists in America in the 1950s. It deals with the real Witch hunts in Salem, Mass, and shows how a few idle words can be misconstrued, and lead to suspicion and false accusation.It is harrowing, and disturbing.
A similar case occured in Pendle, Yorkshire, England in the 17th century and is worth investigating if this aspect of human nature (fear, suspicion,hysteria)interests you.

I love Terry Pratchett, and this book is wonderful. The three witches are so easy to identify with parts of my own character!
All the Discworld books are brilliant-Pratchett draws on so much mythology, legend etc and puts a thought provoking, or humourous, twist on it. If you haven’t read Pratchett yet, DO!
