I listened to this from Audible. It was fantastic. However, it would have been nice if there had been some sort of editor around to help the actors/readers pronounce specific words. Like, “Celtic,” “battle royale,” “address” (the speech, as opposed to “address” the place where something is located), “coup de etat”, etc. It’s difficult to believe someone’s a genius when they can’t speak their mother tongue.

This movie was UNBELIEVABLE! SOOOO good. Seriously need to watch it again, as they all talk so fast in words I don’t always catch.

If you love Film Noir you will most likely love this movie. Even without seeing noir, like my husband, you will most likely love this movie.

ARG! It’s impossible to talk about without giving anything away!

Memory Almost Full

Holy, holy, holy goodness! This is an album full of real life emotions, and it’s so perfect. The only song I do not perfectly LOVE is 222, I just don’t get it. But the album is powerful, yet light, It’s like The Ginger People’s Ginger Juice: you recognize the flavor, and everything seems really familiar, but it’s the first time you’ve ever had something so not sweet and sticky. It’s just completely … i dunno, honest?

This is an album full of songs you could build playlists or mix tapes around. They’re all so solid they could hold almost anything together.

This movie is getting a bad rap, but I seriously enjoyed it. Maybe you need to know people like Ben to have fun with it. Red Sox fandom, it can be like a religion. I’ve known these guys. I’ve grown up with these guys. I’ve dumped these guys. I’m interested to read Hornby’s book, because I’ve heard it’s a lot better, and, quite frankly, I could see that. But it’s a fun movie, and if you like baseball, lived in Boston, or just like Drew Barrymore or Jimmy Fallon (how do I get my husband to dress like that?) I think you’ll enjoy it.

One minor problem: I hate Drew Barrymore’s “cutesy.” I don’t know how else to say that, but sometimes she seems she’s just a little too aware of exactly how cute she can be.

The Adventures of SharkBoy and LavaGirl in 3-D

There are some movies I want to see because they look good, and there are some movies I see because my head hurts and I need something stupid to watch and it’s on TV. This is the latter, but it was more entertaining than I expected. The characters are cute and sympathetic, the plot moves quickly, and it’s just cute. But I don’t understand why someone would get it for their kids when the Neverending Story is out there. It teaches the same lessons, with a lot better story telling.

Shrek the Third

Man. Seriously fun movie. Great, fun soundtrack. Justin Timberlake can act (especially given that it’s really hard to do voice-over (or so I’ve heard)). Almost as good as the first one, SHADOWS and LIGHT were UNBELIEVABLE! And the part with Snow White is the most kick-ass thing I’ve ever seen in a theater.

but wonderful all the same. Cute, with lots of Pixar-in-jokes as we have come to expect from them (though couldn’t find the reference to Finding Nemo, anyone got it?).

The theme of the story is fabulous, too. Not only does Lightning learn to respect the contributions of others, but he also learns to be more self-dependent.

Okay, Tom Cruise is awful, the plot is predictable, the whole movie follows the same pattern as every other “summer block buster” suspense action movie.

But was it worth the time I spent watching it, knitting, munching on popcorn and laughing at the really awful lines and Cruise’s expressions (as well as my inability to imagine any chemistry between him and his wife)? Yeah, it was.

Oh my god! Awful! Seriously. I was looking forward to watching it, and I agree with almost all of the points that the movie makes, but this movie was completely dribble. I swear it was set up to brainwash your children.

I strongly recommend watching this before you put it on in front of your children. No swearing, no violence, just a really strong message.

Running & Being: The Total Experience

This book is able to describe why we love to move, why we should love to move, and why we love to watch others move. Meditations on what we derive from running or other forms of play fill this book. As it is comprised of essays it is easy to pick up and read for a few minutes while on the train, going to bed, or wherever. I also found that I WANTED to put it down after each essay, so that I might reflect on what was said.

Seriously amazing.

Stranger Than Fiction

This movie is beautiful and fun and literate. Very meta. Maggie Gyllenhaal is the girl I most aspire to be. The romance is completely believable and sweet and great in so many ways.

The absolute greatest thing, though, is the Motion Graphic Design! It is nearly it’s own character. Beautiful, simplistic, able to explain difficult concepts about our beloved hero with minimal confusion. And funny! Motion Graphics with a sense of humor! Seriously amazing.

And everyone is cast perfectly. It’s really a great, entertaining movie.

They sell these in a number of stores in Bethesda, MD, and I’ve come to love them. They’re low on calories for the amount you can eat, though that doesn’t matter to me as much as it should.

The chocolate is light, and the seeds have the wonderful nutty taste. Seriously someone should have thought of this a long time ago.
