One of the best things I love about this novel is the depth of understanding Lawrence has for the female mind and the way he conveys it. Just really marvellous stuff.
This was an implulse purchase as I don’t know a thing about Catherine de Medici or the author. I am interested in this historical period though and it’s been an informative but entertaining read so far.
A friend of mine recommended this writer to me, and from the back it seemed to be a superior Wilbur Smith-type novel. I’m quite excited about it. :)
It is an interesting book. The conversational style of the first person narrative is at times an asset as well as a hindrance, but the characters are well drawn and the ending is perfectly quiet, solemn and bittersweet.
