A wonderful book about a woman undergoing a spiritual transformation. One of those rare works that put a positive spin on Islam.

I thought it was kinda boring and hard to follow. There were brief moments of interesting ideas though. That may be a saving grace. Otherwise I just sped through the end just to get it done. Not entirely happy.

A very inspirational work of autobiographical pieces of Muslim women on their activist work. Really really good.

I haven’t heard a good CJ album since “Miles from Our Home.” “21st CEntury Blues” beats it out. For the most part, they go back to their roots, with their own songs & with some interpretation of other songs. The last two songs are slightly different: Song #10 has a hip-hop feel, and somehow they make it work. They also did a good job interpreting a U2 song to make it their own.

a very interesting story with, again, her trademark beautiful language. pay attention, the characters are all related (literally and figuratively) to each other. also, the time frames are pretty fluid too. but otherwise, really nice novel. liked it a lot.

It’s just an advanced reader’s copy i got as a bonus for working in a bookstore, so i can read it before hand and when it comes out i can say, “i have read it and you should too!” :)

even though the opening shot is of a mutilated statue of jesus (peace be upon him) on a cross (symbolizing the absolute barbarity of war, especially WW1), Mathilde’s struggle to keep hope and finding her fiancé deemed dead is, well, a good antedote.

Man, watch it! It’s jean-pierre jeunet, one of the best!

I’m not sure what to make of it. After reading a book about him and his ideas, it kinda made more sense where he was coming from. still, i don’t agree with him 100%, but it was still interesting.

I currently finished discs 1, 2, and 3 in the audiobook. I had to skip the James Allan McPherson story, mostly because I couldn’t stand his voice. “The Shawl” by Cynthia Ozick was ok, i have a love/hate relationship with that story. My favorite story so far is “The German Refugee” by Bernard Malamud.

A few pages about gender and space in the mosque was pretty interesting. Otherwise it was over my head, difficult, if you know things about architecture and aesthetics, then go for it.
