NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Warning: may contain spoilers

Have I missed something? Because I feel as though I’m the only person on the surface of the earth who thoroughly disliked this book. I will admit that I read it in 4 days and, as such, it is an easy read but an easy read does not a good book make.

There are a couple of good points: I could relate to Bella’s initial feelings of infatuation with Edward, and I think that was captured quite well. And the book picked up somewhat when Bella was being hunted but a book shouldn’t start to get interesting when there’s only a hundred or so pages left.

I felt that Meyer’s writing was rather poor, to start with, and it seemed as though she had written it in Word and used the thesaurus function to replace one word for another. It was also a little…clunky and hard to read to begin with. Again, her writing style picked up and started to flow better 100 or maybe 200 pages in, in my rather humble opinion.

The story, itself, is rather unoriginal – it’s basically the same story that’s been told many times before but replacing a human boy with a vampire. I think Edward’s vampirism and the danger it presents to Bella can be seen as a metaphor for how many parents would probably feel about their teenage daughters dating a teenage boy and how daunting and scary a first romance could feel for those involved.

I suppose it doesn’t help that I don’t like love stories in books. I love romantic films but can’t stand reading about romance (unless it’s the Romantic movement style of romance or the Gothic romance and not the love-story kind of Romance, if that makes sense).

At any rate, I suppose in some ways it was worth reading this book because now I know how I feel about it. Some people have commented on hating this book/series but have never read it and that’s not something I wanted to do.

I’d also like to add that, as a rule, I love vampires and that’s not what put me off at all.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was spoiled by the DVD case of all things so a lot of the suspense/questioning that I know should be in the first half of the film (why is Uncle Charlie acting so suspicious?) wasn’t there for me. It built up a bit in the second half a little but I was really disappointed that I had been spoiled! However, it’s still a great film and looks fantastic to boot.

A story about "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" — 1 year ago

I found the special effects rather impressive but other than that I didn’t find myself drawn into the film like I wanted to be. It’s still worth a viewing for the flying saucers, though, I think.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I caught this on TV late the other night. I had no idea it was about an actual person right until the end, so I had no previous interest in the subject. Towards the end, it became quite touching but mostly it didn’t hold my interest, unfortunately.

A story about "Brideshead Revisited" — 1 year ago

I’m afraid I had to give up. I watched the first three episodes, and while I did enjoy myself, I just didn’t have the time to watch the rest before I had to take it back to the library. One day I shall finish watching it, but I need a lot more time.

This really is a terribly corny movie though that doesn’t make it wholly unenjoyable, of course. But I have a soft spot for Fabian so seeing him ‘acting’ in a film like this was a bit of a treat.

WORTH CONSUMING!

After watching Love in Thoughts I decided to look Daniel Bruhl up on imdb.com and, realising my mother had this film on DVD, watched it on a whim. I’m very glad that I did because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Putting aside the fact that I find Daniel Bruhl to be absolutely gorgeous, I think it’s a lovely film. Granted, not a lot happens but that doesn’t bother me so much in a film.

See this entry. Pretty much the same thing for this movie.

This was on pay-per-view and we had been sitting around talking for hours and hours so we decided it’d be a great idea to watch this (and Debbie Does Dallas). It’s incredibly funny but definitely one of the least sexy things I’ve ever seen. But funny.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The only thing that made this movie somewhat bearable was Jensen Ackles’ beautiful face.
