A story about "Ten Thoughts About Time" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Great, short, “readable” book. Great read for the serious goal-setter/ 43 Things user/ GTDer/ busy and time-impaired person. Presents different ways of thinking about time and using your time—not just another self-help book, nor just a physics or philosophy book. Bodil Jonsson is a hip intellectual, grounded and honest.

A story about "The Hospital" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Made in 1971, dysfunctional hospital as microcosm for crumbling 60’s society, with an ultimately conservative message: last line, “Somebody’s got to be responsible.”

A story about "Hayes Day Pack" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Great laptop backpack designed for women. I highly recommend it. Support a business owned and operated by women by getting it from See Jane Run Sports, which will cost exactly what it would to buy it from anywhere else you can find timbuk2 bags online.

A story about "Personal Power (audio cassette)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Brief notes from interview with Dr. Rogers:

Person-centered approach, rather than power relinqushing and demanding. Encourages clients to take responsibility for own life, his contribution as a therapist is to encourage patient to discover his own power and return to himself, become independent (facilitating session, rather than leading—providing conditions only).
Notes cultural prevalence of one leading another, power over another (teacher over student, husband over wife).
Relationship changes to caring, rather than controlling. Caring often feels impermissable.
Empathetic relating, and real listening to understand how the other experiences life.
Climate is no-role, really centered on individual, subjective experience—listening, not defining.
Person-centered relationships, both prize individuality, grow together, share own dreams, both have rights to pursue potentialities. Not pre-determined by role, certainly.
Risky way of being—taking these steps means more possible failure, more choices.
One is a person, rather than a role, also, one feels centered and supported—power stays with one, one remains in control…

Given opportunity, people will do good by themselves, individual can be trusted to grow and develop in suitable psychological climate.
