A Film With an Unusual Style — 5 years ago
This film from start to finish had me in stitches, the plot it’s self isn’t anything too amazing, dealing with jilted lovers and affairs of the heart in a typical suburban setting.
And it all starts of fairly normal, until James Gandolfini steps outside and steps into a song and dance routine. It turns out that Romance and Cigarettes is very much a “Karaoke Musical” every so often people just pick up and sing along to the background music in semi-imagined sequences. Christopher Walken stealing some of the best moments with his story of woe echoed though a rendition of “Delilah” in one of his oddest roles to date.
On paper, it sounds like it wouldn’t work, but sitting down to watch it I was instantly convinced and it’s one of the best films I’ve seen for a long time not only delivering a solid and enjoyable film, but something that is truly something different.
