WORTH CONSUMING!

I “read” this via audiobook on my ipod. I enjoyed it but I think I would have liked it even better if I had read the book. There’s something about someone else’s voice in your head enunciating words and using different voices for characters that is somewhat distracting from the overall story line. But, I loved the idea of this book – definitely creative!

WORTH CONSUMING!

A really great book! While repetitive in some parts, over all it was really interesting and very touching. Can’t wait to see the movie!

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book made me shed tears of several kinds of emotions from page one until the end. Wah. Truly, it’s good for romantics of all kinds and those who have loved ones. I also enjoy the time travel element. The jumble of events reminds me of the movie “Primer,” which is much more difficult to follow.

I guess there could have been more of a scientific element about the time travel notion, but I mean, that in itself is a lot of conjecture anyway. Oh well.

A question I have about this — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I imagine how the author came up with this book. A time traveller needs an occupation, and a librarian is a perfect job one can disappear from. Clare’s occupation – artist – let’s the author express the character in her occupation, but also allows Clare’s occupation to not interfere with the story line.

WORTH CONSUMING!

How does the author pick out poetry that seems to compliment the characters and/or ideas in the novel? Which one was found first? The idea, or the excerpt of writing?

WORTH CONSUMING!

For some reason allconsuming won’t let me label this “wishy washy.” It was a quick read, with touching moments, but I really wanted it to be an adventure, or at least a romantic adventure, rather than a straight romance. I do think the characters are more ambiguous than many readers acknowledge. If read that way, the story is darker and raises more questions. I think I was uncomfortable with how some pretty dusty gender roles were unchallenged and, in fact, reinforced. It did capture the mood of twenty-somethings in the nineties pretty well.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really enjoyed this book and by the end I felt as though I was part of the protagonists’ (Henry’s and Clare’s) family, going through the same heartache and longing page after page. The novel delineates so many genuine emotions and issues without a bit of pandering (love, lust, frustration, loneliness, desperation, sickness, fear, etc.)

In many other instances when I have read books about time travel, I’ve been confused about the sequence of events, but Niffenegger does a fabulous job explaining Henry’s condition and the effects his time traveling has on his family and friends. But this is first and foremost a love story, not a science fiction read, but those who aren’t big fans of romance (myself included) shouldn’t hesitate to pick it up.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A great non-traditional love story. Kept me turning the pages and I loved the unconventional ending. As soon as I finished reading, I quickly searched for others by Niffenegger. Unfortunately for me, this is her first and only book.

So I, like Clare Abshire, wait.
