The Tick cartoon series was perhaps one of the most witty, funny, and brilliant super hero programs of all-time. It was a parody, a satire, and sheer insanity all folled inot one.
So, when I got this book and find that is not just any old origin story, but a full scale reprint of the first ever Tick story, I was open to the fact that this is basically a pilot episode and there is some rough cuts to be made in order to get to this diamond.
Surprise, surprise, the Tick was an escaped mental patient who runs away to a city filled with super heroes. That explains the insanity that is The Tick.
Now, I know what you are thinking, and yes, I hate when Free Comic Book Day offerings issue previously published material- but I make an exception. This story was previously issued in the mid-1980s and according to Mile High Comics’ website, you’d have to shell out about $57 for a near mint copy of that issue. So, vintage to near vintage reprints are ok. I only take exception to something that reprints a tales published within the last 2 years of issue.
With that cleared up, I give this issue a full star worth consuming.
