A somewhat interesting look at how different words came into American English, loosely grouped by topic… like food words, place names, sports terms. Might be more interesting if not read all the way through, because I really enjoyed it at first and then got bored.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s a very good read, but a book you should spend time on. This isn’t a book you can read in a few continuous sittings. I love Bill Bryson’s sense of humour and this book though a departure from his usual narrative of travel adventure is still humorous. It’s informational and detailed and answered a number of questions I had about the origins of certain Americanisms.

Incerdibly informative. My mind boggles at the thought of all the reasearch the author must’ve put in. Brilliant piece of work and at times, funny too.
