Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 3 years ago
it’s a little dated even though his observations are always quirky and fun.

Funny as hell.
I haven’t been to most of the places that he described, but of the places that I have been…
I loved his description of Rome. The chapter on Naples was dead on. The stuff about Sorrento was good. I had better feelings about Florence and Salzburg than he apparently did.
Good book. Worth reading. You’ll “get it” better if you’ve been to whereever it is he’s talking about, but even if you haven’t, it’s a great book. Hilarious.
Entertaining and humorous, and makes me want to do more European traveling myself. The only thing is that Bryson’s routine (find a hotel, see the sights, try the food) does get repetitive after a while, but since it’s a travel memoir I don’t see anyway to avoid that.
I have both read excerpts to people and burst out laughing, on my own, while reading this on the park bench and other public places. If you can’t laugh at this, you can’t laugh at anything:)
I thought “Walk in the Woods” ran long and was too caught up in historical details. This is much funnier.
