I read this book back in 7th grade, about 20 years ago. In fact, I was the only one in my class who read it (long story).

Yet, it has become my favorite book of all times. I read it often and always enjoy it

Just keep this in mind while you’re reading: Yes, the rabbits are an allegory, but they’re still rabbits. Are you ready for 480 pages reading about rabbits? And no, I’m not talking about Updike Rabbits cause those are more entertaining.

I very tentatively recommend this, but the younger and less cynical the more enjoyment I assume someone will find. I’m 22 and very cynical, but my 16 year old sister loved it (though she’s also very cynical).

BORING! Made me want to drown myself.

What I loved about this book was that it was so … how to put it … light, soft, easy, warm, natural? I kind find the right word, but what I mean is, after always reading books about gritting conflict and life and death and murder and revenge and whining (in the case of most of the books assigned in university), here’s a book at last that is just easy to read, relaxing. Even though it certainly has conflict and life-and-death situations, there’s something about it that makes it more like a summery, dreamy reflection I think.

The book that scarred me for life, and turned me into a vegetarian animal-rights nut. An epic morality tale – chilling, beautiful, tragic – and above all, still relevant.
