fun, if a bit derivative — 4 years ago
A good book and a nice story. It is fairly derivative of Tolkein’s work. This comes across strongest in the names and languages used in the book. Still, a very fun read.

despite his blatant rip-offs of Tolkien, i enjoyed reading this book. too bad the reviews for the new one are awful :(

Without a doubt, Eragon is one of the best fantasy books I’ve read in quite a while. I’d heard of it at least a year ago, but I can’t believe I waited as long as I did to read it. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
I love the lyrical prose…the words flow together and reading the book is a joy – there’s some very beautiful language and descriptions. Knowing that the author was only 15 when he started writing is great inspiration for an aspiring writer like myself, as well.
