a good jumping off point, but dissatisfying — 2 years ago
A great concept for a book, and one that engendered a great many conversations about the life and shape of memories as well as the ethics of drugs that rejigger your life and/or past. I liked it well enough, but there were not enough examples or experiences for us to fully get Win’s great dilemma. I was dissatisfied also with the pat explanations - very pop psychology, very 8th grade - of Litminov’s driving passions. Too neat, not enough.
I did like Win’s explorations of what it meant to be the person other people think you are and living up to an ideal.
All in all, this was a book that could have stood to be a bit longer.
