I was a little disappointed in this film. I read the reviews of how it was genius and moving and unforgetable. I thought for sure I would absolutely love this since so many reviewers were just over the moon about it, but I just didn’t find it all that great. I have seen other Hayao Miyazaki films and loved them, but this one was not as enjoyable for me.

I have to agree with PerfectSonnet regarding all the screaming and crying, way too loud and annoying, kinda like fingernails on a chalkboard, but I think that has to do with the American actors they chose to play the children. I mean Dakota Fanning’s voice is pretty annoying on it’s own, but in this film it it even more so. I think it really effected how I felt while watching this, cause at the end of the movie I had no warm and fuzzy feelings just the disbelief that this film got such high reviews from so many people.

Oh and BTW, the super creepy cat bus terrified my 4 year old son and he stopped watching the film after that scene. Still marking this as worth consuming since it wasn’t that bad, just not that good either.

Watched it with my little nephew and we both love it.

The characters are very realistic and the attention to

detail is fascinating.

sigh i love miyazaki!

this had a bit of a slow intro for me, but this film really underlines how i think miyazaki just gets children and childhood.

indomitably cute and yes, a little bizarre (cat bus, anyone?)

we’ve been claiming to be totoro’s since we watched it.

I thought it was alright. It’s a bit creepy haha! I watched it in english cause I didn’t feel like reading subs but normally I like to hear the original version. The screams and howls and cries were so loud and annoying! I think that is what bothered me the most. It has a pretty good fantasy story line!

Cute movie. A little bizarre, but I liked it.
