great stuff. Makes you feel so small. There is a follow up book along with a DVD from the show Brian Greene did on Nova that are also worthwhile. After checking this stuff out go and either read Carl Sagan’s book contact or see the movie. It takes on a whole new depth once these concepts are more firmly understood.

WORTH CONSUMING!

An excellent book. Greene does a very good job of explaining advanced physical theories to the layman. I enjoyed his writing, and the examples used were clear, interesting, and often funny. All of the more advanced mathematics was hidden behind endnotes, many of which could be skipped, if the reader desired.
The book starts with excellent introductions of Einstein’s special and general relativity – by far the best that I’ve ever read. I did find that the content became more advanced as the book continued, and after two-thirds of the way through, I stoped reading the endnotes “for the mathematically inclined”, because I’d hit the level of my inclination. I didn’t find that this reduced my enjoyment of the book any, though.
An excellent book. Read it.

Nice survey of current thinking in cosmology and physics; covers string, superstring, and M-Theories of quantum physics, and relates them to classical phyics and the current standard model.

Bought it as I am going to a talk by him at OWU. Hope to read a little bit of it before the lecture.

I made it about halfway through this and had to put it down for one reason or another, and now I’m having trouble continuing it.

Still working on this one. Greene does do a great job of explaining the physics for the layman. Not something I can read everyday, but I am enjoying it.

The later chapters go much more slowly than the earlier ones.
