The horse named “Joey” is the star here, no doubt. We witness his birth, his growing up, his sale, his life as a Thoroughbred forced to plow, his induction into the cavalry for WWI, the loss of his mounted officer, his “rescue,” his escape, his befriending a sickly French girl, his capture, the loss of his “best friend,” his run through no-man’s land, his entrapment, his redemption, a reunion… who needs actors? Well worth watching, if you can stomache some very graphic war scenes.
