WORTH CONSUMING!

For me, the acid test of good science fiction is how I feel after leaving the theater. If my “normal world” seems somehow alien, the movie worked, and that is certainly the case with John Carter. Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights fame has come of age and totally dominates this saga of a 19th century rouge flung into a conflict on Mars. Edgar Rice Burroughs story is very well adapted by the wizards at Disney and Pixar, and Lynn Collins is delicious as Dejah Thoris, a Princess of Mars. Well done.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had some trouble connecting to the characters, which hurt the movie in the beginning, but by the end I was fully enthralled by what I saw on the screen. I can’t wait to see it again.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s more than easy to see how the cynical could tear this to shreds, but it was also very easy to just sit back and enjoy this ripping yarn! It’s fun, it’s family-friendly, and it looks gorgeous. Remember, those plot/character bits are only familiar ’cos this story predated them all!
