At the bar last night, there was this funny contraption on the bar. It said Guinness but had nothing from which to pour the famous meal in a glass (see photo). So, we asked the bartender how it worked.
He pulled out a glass and a can of Guinness (I know, a can! A sacrilege!) Anyway, he poured it into the glass. Now this does not produce the grey, brown cloud that we’re all familiar with. It was the simple dark black. The bartender then put the glass on the silver dish in the photo (there was a very small amount of water in the dish), pushed a button and then suddenly…
...the glass clouded up in swirls as though it was being poured directly from the tap. He let it sit there for a bit as the colors changed and swirled around themselves. It was really cool to watch.
Then he served the glass. Apparently, it wasn’t that bad.
After my first pint of lager, I decided to try it. Same procedure, however, I don’t think he left it swirl enough. Anyway, the taste was nothing like from the tap and, actually, quite disgusting. It also didn’t have the thickness of a real Guinness. Basically, to me it was just a gimmick!
Has anyone else seen this way of serving a Guinness?
