Ultimately I just didn’t like it, any of the characters or anything that happened in it. I can see Charlize Theron acted well, but – too bleak, too badly behaved, all of them!

I really like Charlize Theron as an actress, but this part was far below her standards. Except for a few excellent scenes with Patton Oswalt, I would have marked this not worth watching. The characters just aren’t likeable, so who cares if they suffer? It’s a swing and a miss for director Jason Reitman, not quite a strike out.

This film contains a great script, some devoted acting and fine directing. Theron plays a seemingly depressed author who returns to her home-town where she’s bound to retake her high-school love. Very human, funny, tragic and contains a fantastic 1990s-ish soundtrack.
