This movie was silly, gaudy, and outrageous…I absolutely loved it! I normally will not watch anything with Tracy Ullman in it because her style of humor usually grates on me, but she was perfect for this part. I could not have imagined a better choice to play her character.

“Winnifred is so formal why don’t you just call me by my nick name” “Oh, you mean Winni?” “No, Fred.” Hence the musical number “Song of Love” in which the lyrics are “I’m in love with a girl named Fred.” Awesome!

This was a fun pick-me-up romp through the old tale of the Princess and the Pea. I would love to see this on stage. I did find it interesting that Carol Burnett originally played Princess Winnifred in the original Broadway cast and she now played the evil Queen Aggravaine in the movie version. Because of this, I amend my previous statement. Carol Burnett is the only other person I could see pull off the character Princess Winnifred with the physical comedic grace, style, and humor Tracy Ullman commanded.

Finally got to see a version of this musical, and it’s a very fun retelling of the story of the Princess and the Pea.
