Good “2nd Chapter” Movie

I had a little concern this would be a hacked-together sequel just for the sake of making another “Underworld” movie.

The story was rather good. Enough plot twists and anticipation to keep me engaged in the movie. This movie, like the first “Underworld” didn’t use enough of the typical vampire abilities or vulnerabilities, although this one was much better. For instance, per Bram Stoker, vampires could not be photographed yet these vampires can be seen on video tape. If you didn’t know, “Evolution” starts off immediately where the first movie ended.

The acting was good. Beckinsale is a terrific actress. I like her in ‘Much to Do About Nothing” and some of her other movies. With the ‘Underworld’ franchise, she has certainly proven to be an action star.

Directing was good. Same feel and intuition with the camera play as the first movie. The visuals were a bit weak in this one. Specificly with the lycan transformation; the special effects were not as clean looking.

UNDERWORLD 3 PREDICTION!
Yes, there will be a third movie, although I am not going to write my prediction here. Too much of a spoiler. So, if you want to know what it is, you’ll need to send an email to me **.com or find me on Yahoo messenger to ask.

On the Happy John Movie Rating scale, “Underworld Evolution” is a matinee with a medium popcorn and medium soda.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The movie begins right as the last leaves off, and quickly throws away all the promise of the what the story could have been. The loose ends are clumsily swept away and we are left with a super vampire and and packs of unthinking werewolves. For most of the movie Michael just sits around looking pretty as the fate of his family legacy is decided without his help.

This was still an enjoyable movie, even if it was unable to live up to its potential. After all, how can you go wrong with vampires and wereworlves and blood and Kate Beckinsale in tight black leather outfits (when she was wearing clothes at all) shooting guns for two hours?

WORTH CONSUMING!

Finally got to see it last night. Underworld Evolution delivers as a sequel. You have to like the genre which I do. Kate is amazing. The fight scenes are amazing. There is something oddly appealing about a woman in all black leather with a gun and vampire teeth. No big moralistic tale or deeper meanings (that I bothered to pay attention to), just rocking good versus evil entertainment. Well done.

WORTH CONSUMING!

As with any sequel to something I enjoyed the original of, I was a bit worried. And then of course, the first reviews trickling in weren’t very good but I liked the move a lot.

It picked up right where the first one ended and definitely expanded on the mythology of the vampire and lychen races.

And to top it off, you get to see Kate Beckinsale in tight black clothes.
