In this Free Comic Book Day offering from 2011, we’ve got Shrek and the Penguins from the Madagascar films. Both capture the whimsy and charm of their respective movies. However, Shrek with it’s prose inspiration seems to translate better to to paper than the Penguins do.
See Shrek has the Three Little Pigs, and Pinnochio, and Puss in Boots, all well known children’s books. Thus, their witty dialgoue and banter works well with 2-D images. The Penguins are like a commando version of the Three Stooges, thus they need the big screen to help execute their fast based brand of physical comedy.
Both stories are hits, but only Shrek seems like it was destined to become a comic book.
Worth Consuming.
