WORTH CONSUMING!

Really good. Not perfect, and I found some of the action scenes a little confusing, but well-written, with a sufficiently sophisticated vocabulary to keep it from getting boring.
The world that Mieville made is definitely rich and full and ambitious, but maybe a little too much was introduced for the one novel. Also, I sometimes found myself analyzing the “sciency” bits, but I tried to keep that to a minimum as they really weren’t intended to be rigorous and I’m only hurting myself.
Very enjoyable, and I’m hoping to get to Scar real soon now.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have to admit I was nervous about approaching this book again. I had started reading it years ago, but didn’t get far. This time, I kept going, and I’m glad I did. Perdido Street Station is a intensely descriptive book filled with so much detail about New Crobuzon and its inhabitants. Woven throughout is the story of Isaac and his quest to help Yagharek fly and what that quest ultimately leads to. It’ll be a while before the images of this book leave me and I look forward to reading the next book in the series, The Scar.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book gets more and more gripping as you read it, only to come to an abrupt anticlimax and kind of peter out. You have the impression China never got to fully explore some aspects of the plot, that he had to finish it and publish it before it took over his life.

Well worth the read.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love it so far, I read the sequel before this one, and its amazing the level of detail the author has created in this world.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I will not soon forget some of the characters and scenes. At times, it is laborious, even tedious, but overall it is a gorgeous, thrilling story.

I liked the noir feel a lot, but every other paragraph seemed to have the characters stepping through foecal water and entering a building covered with organic slime. Absolute overkill. Other than that, wonderfully different story.

Mad scientists, sentient robots, ugly-@ss moths, half-nekid chicks with insects for heads that build sculptures out of their own fecal matter. Literature, the way Dickens intended it!!!

WORTH CONSUMING!

i don’t consider this book a lost cause, because i really love it – it’s beautifully written, unique, and the storyline is intriguing—it’s just a very intensive read, and i needed a break.
