A unique game in the series, but still a lot of fun — 41 weeks ago
Super Mario Bros. 2 was so very much unlike the first game. When it first came out, it was a whole new experience. This was the first game that Princess Toadstool and Toad were playable, along with Mario and Luigi. Each of the four characters had their own abilities, and I always played as Luigi while my mom always played Princess Peach. This was the first game where I began to enjoy Luigi as a character more than Mario. The biggest changes though, was that it took place in a dream world called Sub-Con instead of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the baddie in this game wasn’t King Koopa, it was a giant toad named Wart.
It wasn’t until years later when “Super Mario All-Stars” came out with “Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels” that I found out that the “Super Mario Bros. 2” that the USA got wasn’t really a Super Mario game at all, but rather the Mario characters put into a game that was released in Japan called “Doki Doki Panic”. Now I know why the game was so different from the other games in the series.
This is my mom’s favorite game in the series. She loved everything from the artwork in this game, the bizarre characters like the bouncing birds, and the beginning where the character drops down from the door. Most of all, she enjoyed the ending, as she found the animation of Mario very cute. And, I definitely have to agree with her there. I would love to see a sequel to this game. It would be fun to visit Sub-Con again, and to see what happened to Wart.
