WORTH CONSUMING!

I gave this a go to see what all the hype was about and why people (teenagers AND adults) are so obsessed with the story.

It was an OK book I suppose and if I’m honest I probably would have lapped it up when I was about 15/16 which is pretty much the target market. However I’m a good decade (or so) beyond that so can only give it an ‘OK’ but I guess I can see what’s so appealing about it, vampire stories will ALWAYS be popular, especially if you throw it at hormonal teenagers.

In relation to other reviews about the style of the writing I actually welcomed the simple style. It was a nice break from some of the try hard writing you can see, overloaded with meaning and missing the point which is to tell a good story.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Its a great book I’m currently on the second one but really I’m kind of getting annoyed with the book, but its fairly an enjoyable read. Its not as great as people claim it is and no I’m NOT falling in love with Edward Cullen because…he’s a made up story character, but Bella keeps saying how perfect Edward is making me want to scream, a little stalkerish much. The movie was worse that the book with the horrid acting, but eh…anything to soak up one’s money I guess.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I can’t beleive how much acclaim this book has gotten. As an 23 year old, the reading level is just too base for me.

Beyond that the overly romanticized relationship between Bella and Edward was sickening. “his pale skin” this and “his perfect face” that. His “glistening chest as he laid in the grass”. His “strong marble arms”. Blah blah blah blah blah. Every other sentence was some obsessive description of this vampire by a young girl. It was just overkill. After the 100th reference to his awesomeness I couldn’t take it. I could basically skim through pages skipping over paragraphs that had already been written before. It wasn’t appealing. Half of this book could have been cut!

Bella is a nut. And needs help. And the fact that young girls her age identify with obsessing over a boys as much as Bella does (enough to want to die and become a vampire like him) is creepy. Get a hobby, read a real book, do some community service. There’s plenty of time in your life for a guy to suck the life out of you at some point. :)

I understand why this appeals to teen girls the way it does – I have to admit that it took me back to that semi-obsessive-very-self-involved state we all lived in starting around 14.

So while parts of the book definitely have their moments, the rest is spent largely as the fantasy of self-involved teen girls everywhere. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing for teen girls, but 100-year-old vampires that had long ago given up on love but never succumbed to any form of lustful curiosity simply are more than just a bit off the charts.

But, hey, isn’t that what we all wanted when we were in Junior High – the perfect Adonis wanted by all with mythical powers who could take our very breath away with one kiss who had never so much as been interested in a single solitary soul before he saw us?

It was what it was – a quick, fun read. It’s not going to go down in history as The Great American novel but it’s a great love story – I can see why it is so popular with “Tweens” and young adults. . . I’m not immediately compelled to pick up the second book in the series but at some point I’m sure I’ll get around to it.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It’s simple: this book is BS. When I saw how everyone was freaking out about this book, I was like, “I have to read it.” Everyone was gah-gah over it and even the trailer looked interesting.

One chapter in and I was thought, “ok, only the first chapter…it’ll get better…” NOPE! After finishing the second chapter I realized, “Holy monkeys, this book is crap!”

All it’s about is this perfect girl who is obsessed with this perfect guy who in return is obsessed with her. How charming? I swear I was gonna rip the book when she spent over a page talking about how she looked up vampires online and all the pop ups she deleted!! I was sick of being in her head when she talked about EVERY little thing she did.

Honestly, I’ve read better fan fictions than this book and they’re usually by people who are a third of the author’s age. This book sounds like she just wanted to write about her teenage love fantasy.

This book is simple: I went to school. I had to do this lousy problem. This place sucks. HOLYCOW, I checked out this hot vampire at lunch! OMG, he’s checking me out too!!

Take your life, add a few vampires, some gloomy weather and lame sarcasm and you’ve just made yourself Twilight.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wow! Twilight sucked me in (no pun intended) from page 1 and didn’t let go.

17-year-old Isabella (Bella) moves from her mother’s home in Phoenix to live with her dad in rural Forks, WA. She has little trouble making friends in her new town, with the exception of her peculiar but dazzling lab partner Edward, who alternately expresses aloofness, interest and hatred (not necessarily in that order) toward her. Intrigued and unable to resist the mystery, Bella studies and attempts to befriend Edward, ultimately confirming her growing suspicions that he isn’t exactly a normal teenager – and is very possibly dangerous.

Twilight is clearly a book written with teens in mind, but can be enjoyed by readers of any age. There were just a few things that didn’t chime quite right with me: Bella was a little too perfect a student in school, and her father seemed a oddly apathetic. The book’s climax wasn’t nearly as interesting to me as the prior buildup, but overall it was a very fun time.

Slow Romance, Fast Action — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I usually don’t agree with gender to book stereotypes, which is why I ignored the “mostly for girls” part of what I’ve heard about this. The vampire parts of the story are fascinating, and the romance is…tolerable. It does get a little repetitive, but the action within it makes it great.

And now the movie…

I’ve read this book five now, and it just gets better and better each time. You’d be amazed how much foreshadowing there is that you didn’t notice the first time you read it. Still one of my favorite books, its absolutely amazing.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I’m years out of the intended audience (I’m 50-something). I’ll be looking for the 2nd and 3rd at the library soon. Love Love Love Edward and his family!

I read this book in less than 24 hours. I was not able to put this book down for more than 5 minutes without going insane. Words cannot describe how intoxicating this story is, not to mention how madly in love I fell with Edward Cullen.

I didn’t plan on reading this book, as I mostly heard not so good things about it. I was curious though, not expecting anything too great. The writing is nothing fantastic, in fact it had me laughing. I loved every minute though, it is very entertaining.

So, just so we’re clear… is Edward good-looking?

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 3 years ago

I dont have much of a drive to finish this. I know I must, but the story just seems predictable. The only past of it I really enjoy is Edward and Bella’s semi-cute wordplay, which to my advantage takes up half the pages now. : )

Too highly regarded, nevertheless, still fairly enjoyable. — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m not going to gush about this book like everyone here seems to. It’s trashy teen beach lit. That’s really all it is. It isn’t beautifully written. The characters aren’t very well developed. The plot is pretty predictable. Regardless, I consumed it in 3 days of frenzied reading. The book was an enjoyable read, if not particularly memorable or of particularly high quality. So if you want a quick, guilty pleasure read, this may be for you. But don’t have too many high expectations.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Twilight is a fairy tale love story between a human, Isabella Swan, and Edward. Edward, of course, is the posterboy for gorgeous, and above all, reignites the belief that chivalry aint dead. Itll prolly make your heart a little bit drunk, or love stoned, whatever.

There are a couple issues with Twilight. First, Bella is seriously vanilla. Shes a seventeen year old virgin, reads Wuthering Heights religiously, and can’t stand up for herself. Shes a wimp, in every sense of the word, but you know, God forbid she should like get a gun or do anything but squeal. Second, she agrees to get married straight outta highschool and ditch her family for 100andsomething year old guy. Am I the only one thinking " Creepy, Creepy."? Honestly, the next book should be " Bella: Barefoot and Pregnant".

Anyways, if you can ignore the BS this is a nice story. There is a certain lack of culture to the books so dont expect to think too hard. Highly recommended just because its so damn popular.

Beautiful — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The great thing about this book is that the author leaves A LOT to the imagination. Being able to fill in the spots with my own colors, feelings, interpretations made it WONDERFUL. (did anyone notice the lack of description as to what Bella actually LOOKED like?)

I don’t know if I would ever consider this novel “suspenseful”… However, the author did an extremely wonderful job conveying that jelly feeling and sense of exhilaration when one falls head over heels in love. It’s a sweet poignant story that’s not really about the plot so much as it is about the vivid characters. They were so well portrayed…

I can’t wait to finish the series.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This book was a HUGE waste of my time and money. I can’t believe how my friends thought this book was brilliant but Pride & Prejudice was “dull and just plain stupid”. This was a terrible book, in my opinion.

Basically this is the story (SPOILERS):
Oh my BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward hates me!
Oh, yay BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward and I had the dullest conversation ever where he tried very hard to be clever, mysterious and cryptic and I ate it up like ice cream!
Oh, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward is so BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, & HUNKY!
Oh I love BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward even though he’s a vampire! Dun dun dun! But BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward loves me too and has sworn to protect me and then keeps contradicting himself about how he will keep me safe.Ooh, he’s soooo mysterious and dreamy!
Oh no, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward says I will die!
Oh no, I am dying BUTBEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward TO THERESCUE! YAY!
Oh I want to be a vampire because I love BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward but he won’t let me!THEEND.
Note from author: don’t worry folks, there’ll be more of dull story in my next six or so books about BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, HUNKY Edward and the dull and dim Bella and her desire to become a vampire because she’s in love! So REJOICE!

Or you know GAG

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Well, my friends all told me how absolutely, breathtakingly wonderful this book is. And how it was so so good they read it in a day. So I went out and bought it and so far it’s DEFINITELYNOT living up to its hype. I’m on page 300 and something and the same thing’s been happening. And I hate the characters and I really hate how Bella keeps saying what a gorgeous hunk Edward is. And Edward keeps talking about what a wonderful scrumptious scent Bella has. So I guess “true love/first love” is all about looks and scents. Plus the author tries to sound all poetic and lyrical but it just doesn’t work. The “love story” is so friggin’ contrived!

And isn’t this supposed to be a suspense?

This is what makes me hate teen fiction sometimes. It’s the same old story trying to be something it’s not. And where there’s supposed to be suspense, there’s really nothing more than dull characters talking about the same dull things over and over and OVER. Ugh! Thank god for authors like John Green, Sarah Dessen, Libba Bray and David Levithan.

One of my all time favorites. — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

There are some people who read this book and didn’t like it.

I however urge you to try it for yourself. If you’re into romance and all things supernatural this book will make you thirsty for more. I love the way the author (Stephenie Meyer) writes, her descriptions create imagery that makes it all seem as though its a movie rather than a 500 pg novel. Well worth reading. Don’t miss this one!
