A story about this — 4 years ago
After reading Deadlines, I decided to read another of Bear’s more recent novels, as he’s tilting toward metaphysical thrillers now. This differs from the last time I was reading his stuff, when Eon was hot (super-science-fiction, sensawunder stuff).
So I’ve finished it, and while I enjoyed the journey, I was quite disappointed in the destination. He spent so much time laying out the conspiracy that everything sort of deflated in the end. Yes, I understood the vague narrative collapse, I just didn’t like it.
