A fun, quick mystery — 2 years ago
“Aunt Dimity Snowbound” is set in a small village in England where Lori Shepherd has become overwhelmed by the holidays and her toddler twin boys. In order to get some “alone time,” Lori’s neighbor encourages her to take a day hike along an easy trail. Her husband suggests that she take her stuffed bunny, Reginald, and her Aunt Dimity along in her backpack. She’s had the bunny since childhood; Aunt Dimity is a little harder to explain. Several years earlier, Lori discovered that when she speaks to Aunt Dimity (her mother’s best friend from World War II) aloud and has Dimity’s journal open, words appear in the journal and Dimity’s ghost is able to converse as well as help Lori. A sudden blizzard strands Lori and two other hikers at an estate near the trail. They take shelter, despite the nasty estate caretaker and before long Lori begins to feel that one of the two is hiding something. Lori worries that one of her new friends is planning to steal some priceless hidden heirlooms from the house and Dimity encourages Lori to find the gems first. It is quite a fun “cozy mystery” where all ends well and Lori goes home thoroughly refreshed after being snowed in for several days.
