I hadn’t heard of Cut Copy until recently, but apparently they’ve been around a long time, much longer than Vampire Weekend. As far as indie synthpop/electronica goes, I was favorably impressed. I did a fair share of chair-dancing to many of the songs. The singing and beats called to mind Oingo Boingo and Talking Heads. The alternative percussion instruments on some tracks warrant some comparison to Vampire Weekend, but the lyrics are an entirely different ballgame. Cut Copy tackles big issues like life, death, love, mystery, prophets. This band has way more substance that VW!

The singer desperately wants to be Martin Fry from ABC and the caribbean sounds á la Vampire Weekend and the likes just make me throw up.

I prefer Monarchy.
