Magic Kingdom for Sale/Sold! — 3 years ago
I don’t know why I own so many Terry Brooks novels, as they invariably disappoint me. Not that they’re bad, just not as great as his reputation leads you to believe they must be. Maybe I’m too old?
This one was vaguely fun, but less funny that I expected with the title. In fact, it’s a fairly serious explanation of why a Chicago lawyer would purchase the kingship to a magic fairy kingdom, how he reacts to being there, and how he tries to make his new ‘subjects’ accept that he’s not just a play-king – and of course, how he keeps himself from being killed by the local dragon, witch, trolls, and demon lord!
It was short, which was my main reason for picking it on this occasion. And it didn’t tax my snotty brain too much. Can’t say I’m rushing to read the other four in the series, however.
