Photojournalist Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy) has to help tourist Samantha Wynden (Whitney Able) get back to the United States from Mexico through the “Infected Zone,” an area where squid-like extraterrestrial creatures have taken up residence. That’s pretty much the entire plot, but what makes this film work is the fine acting by these two fledgling performers, who are indeed a real life couple. Their chemistry really shows as they develop a relationship against the backdrop of what amounts to a war zone. Slow pace initially will put some viewers off, but it does pick up nicely half way through.
