Now I don’t mind a sappy, contentfree story now and then, but there are better choices in the genre than Burlesque. There’s not a lot of chemistry between the male and female lead. There’s a couple of very nice tunes, but in the end in my opinion, Christina should stick with singing. She’s great at that, but only a mediocre actress.

Iowa girl wants to make it big in L.A. Failing club will go under unless a miracle occurs. Add the two together. Instant success. Happy ending. It’s a tired old story, but it still works when you have the double diva power of Cher and Christina Aguilera. The sound track alone is worth the price of admission, and Aguilera shows she can do a lot more than belt out a tune. If you liked “Moulin Rouge” or “Chicago,” this film is a must see.
