Bridges and Steinfeld breathe new life into this classic Western saga as Marshall Rooster Cogburn and 14-year-old Mattie Ross, out to avenge her father’s murder. Matt Damon has an out of character role as the flawed Texas Ranger LaBoeuf. I honestly doubted that this would come near John Wayne’s Oscar-winning original performance, but it did. A fresh interpretation of the story and well worth watching.
