In a word: gory. The blood and guts pour freely throughout…certainly not a film for the squeamish. I watched the unrated DVD version, so I’m not sure if the theatrical release was sanitized a bit.
I thought the concept was novel: if banks repo cars and houses for missing payments, why not have The Union do the same with artifical organs? Jude Law and Forest Whitaker play their parts very well. Alice Braga was well cast, too.
About 90 minutes into it, I thought director Miguel Sapochnik had veered off course, but the ending cleared it all up perfectly. Pay attention to the opening bit about the scientist’s cat. It’s a great set up for what follows.
