A lovely, non-apologetic film about a worn-down country musician who loves the bottle and lives the road. An anti-hero if I’ve seen one, to great music (by Stephen Bruton and T-Bone Burnett) and it’s filled with pathos, grace and straight-forwardness. An aria of soft hardcore, gently told through good direction and masterful playing by Jeff Bridges.

This film is offensive to anyone who has or loved someone with alcoholism. It dismisses the struggles of becoming sober.

Basically Jeff and Maggie are THE reason to watch this movie. There performances are the “heart” of this film. The film would be a snoozer without them. The plot it totally predictable and nothing really happens. Also,Bad Blake has the singing voice of a 13 year old girl even though he’s supposed to be a chain smoker and an alcoholic. Give the vocoders a rest guys,.seriously.

Sad, sobering tale of a fading old country singer-songwriter. Excellent acting at all levels and a good soundtrack.
