Extremely predictable. That’s all I have to say about it.

Didn’t live up to the huge hype. I was really looking forward to seeing this, but in the end I’d say it was just okay rather than brilliant. Maybe seeing Inception first spoiled me ;)
Was it just me that found this unintentionly hilarious.
Dicaprio outdoes his usual “okay acting” in this role as the U.S. Marshall who has to go to an island where the criminally insane are locked away. It will never rank among Scorsese’s best efforts, but it is well filmed and well cast, as might be expected. A weak plot lets it down. If you don’t figure out the twist before final lighthouse scene, you might want to start the film over. Except for a few nuances, it’s pretty transparent.
A very good movie although a bit predictable. And a bit too nasty if you have kids…
There’s no New Yorkers, Mobsters, Italians, or Cab Drivers- if it wasn’t for DeCaprio speaking in a Yankee accent, you wouldn’t know that this was a Scorsese picture.
I figure out some of the plot by the 15 minute mark. The getting from point A to point B is what was a big unknown. I hated most of this picture. But, the ending was fantastic. It was smart and it was very poignant.
SPOILERALERT-
Some say that Leo’s character regress back to his evil self and thus hate to be lobotomized. I think Leo’s character was cured, but he couldn’t live with the memories, so he pretends to be regressed, hence his final comment “Which is better? To live a monster or to die a good man?”
End SPOILER-
That was an ending to really gets you thinking. My wife, who is a clinical social worker and Psych major would love this film and I would watch it again with her. However, if you offered me a free rental to see this film again without her, I’d turn ya down.
Disturbing, and despite DiCaprio’s tired predictability I found it impossible to look away. Cast in a minor (but crucial) role, I hope Williams found the exercise cathartic – let that be the last word on that. Scorsese delivers excellent psychological horror, and for once in a year+ I find myself wishing I saw this first on the big screen.
