Overall, I enjoyed this. Robert Downey Jr. plays a Holmes who is as gritty as he is cerebral, great with his fists as well as his brains. Jude Law is a wonderful counterpoint as Watson. Think apples and cheese. The plot reminded me of “National Treasure” a bit – secret society, hidden rooms. I had read somewhere that Downey tends to mumble his lines, and I agree. His mind races, too, which makes the dialog hard to follow at times. Pacing in the movie was uneven, too fast in some scenes, too slow in others, and at 128 minutes it felt long. A little more editting would have improved it. But definitely a film to watch, and the set up for the sequel was painfully obvious. They’ll be back.
