Mesmerizing. This shows what the world lost when MJ died…a master entertainer. Kenny Ortega delivered “This Is It” on film, but it is obvious what an incredible production it would have been on stage. The extra footage in the special features of the DVD is almost as riveting as the film itself. What a tremendous crew was pulled together. Some 5,000 world-class dancers auditioned to be among the 11 chosen. There was 3D technology used in creative ways, too. And I loved how MJ intended to end the show with a message about the environment. Wow. This can be watched over and over. Don’t miss it.
Whatever you think of Michael Jackson, you can’t deny his impact on pop culture and music… for FOURDECADES. Wow. This movie answers a few questions I had about his musicianship, which is astonishing. I was agog watching MJ working with his band, and fairly impressed by his physical willingness to entertain. Fifty years old… hard to believe.
The film ignores tabloid topics, which is probably appropriate. It is an homage to influence of a man who became a phenomenon. I couldn’t help mourning for the show itself – the people involved in it, pouring so much effort and money into an endeavor that never came to fruition. You feel their enthusiasm as a real force, their worship of this man who was a true icon, for better or worse. Like I said, if nothing else this film is fascinating for the curious.
And yeah, I couldn’t hold back. I did a little Thriller dance in a my seat. I wasn’t alone. :)
