NOT WORTH CONSUMING

God bless science. I can buy a gallon of homogenized, pasteurized, whothehellknowswhatelseized milk and it won’t go bad for weeks and weeks. I bought some organic milk once. And it went sour like, the very next day. What the hell? Why would anyone do that to themselves on purpose? Some sort of nostalgia for the Dark Ages? Please.

All you hippies are seriously messed up in the head. What’s a little bovine growth hormone between friends, eh? I don’t care. Cancer? An extra tit? Whatever the cost, I will gladly pay it, for milk I can keep in my fridge for longer than a week.

i tried the skim and i can tell the difference between this and reg. skim milk. definetly a better taste, but i’m kind of lactose intolerant so it makes me a tad sick. it’s soy and rice milk for me!!!

WORTH CONSUMING!

For me Buying Organic Milk has a number of rational with the first being the lack of hormones and antibiotics. But, perhaps the most important is a bit of consumer based “social engineering”. I want to encourage good farming practices, stewardship for the land, respect for the animals, and reduce the odds of antibiotic resistant bacterial strains developing.

Organic farming practices support all of these goals.

Oh, and Horizon can be found in most markets in many cities on the west coast and comes in two basic forms. The basic Pasteurized version which must be handled by your market just like other milk and an Ultra-Pasteurized version which has been raised to a higher temperature for a longer period so that it can survive the distribution system a bit better. (I won’t argue the health benefits of one over the other beyond the issue of lack of proper regard by markets for proper storage of dairy products. Ultra-Pasteurized milk survives the extremes of the distribution and shelving process in a much fresher state.)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I buy this milk all the time.

I don’t mind saying, after I heard about bovine growth hormones my interest in drinking milk markedly dropped.

I am pleased to say that I am back to drinking milk daily again, after our local health food shops and supermarkets started carrying this Horizon brand of organic milk.

From reading the labels it sounds like the kind of milk I want to drink. Naturally, people are skeptical about what they read on labels as well as concerned about anything they put into their bodies.

These days, one cannot take for granted what we put into our bodies is as safe as what humans have been putting into their bodies for the last ten thousand years, nor that it comes from the same natural organisms that humans have been feeding upon until the last century. Artificially induced genetic mutations (GM), artificial growth hormones, and subsequent wide-scale dosing of domestic livestock with antibiotics have seen to that.

However, some livestock and dairy producers are echewing the modern regimen of hormones and drugs that are becoming commonplace now. Their hope is to address the needs of health-conscious consumers by creating a better, safer, healthier product.

In doing so they might actually aid the ecology of our environment somewhat. Not to mention make a milk that evokes less concern about what is inside that cool, refreshing, opaque, white beverage in the glass before us.
