A Heartbreaker — 3 years ago
This story is a treat and incredibly heartbreaking.
This was my first exposure to Indian literature and though the shortness of the novel (which Bollywood transformed into a three hour long extravaganza) caught me off guard I ate it up in a day and was left very satisfied. I loved the film, but the book was tragic in a different way. Everything seemed much more raw, without the melodrama that Bollywood often throws into the mix.
Devdas is a wonderful story, I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. The deep and realistic characters make the entire plot come alive.
This is a true tale of love and true tragedy. Romeo and Juliet is not worthy of comparison to Devdas. Ever.
