WORTH CONSUMING!

I suppose it’s true that the ending was a bit of a let down, but the journey to get there was still well worth the ride. I thought the writing was amazingly descriptive, evocative, intriguing. I think I smiled throughout, as I was taken up in the superstitions, folklore, mysteries. Shields’ words were a web weaving an enchantment, compelling me in.

A disappointing end. It felt like Shields would have gone on and on writing (and her writing is quite evocative) if she could have, but she had to bring the novel to an end somehow. For a mystery, there were all sort of (seeming) clues that amounted to nothing in the end.
