WORTH CONSUMING!

Me Talk Pretty One Day was a much more thought out, much more humorous book than Naked by David Sedaris. If you are looking to read one of his books for the first time, I’d recommend Me Talk Pretty One Day over this one. Save Naked for when you are finished with a few of his other books :D Happy Reading!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Dang! I just finished the audio version of Naked — it came as part of the boxed set that I checked out of the library. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the audio version is abridged until I was finished with it. The other “books” in the boxed set were unabridged, but there is no unabridged version of Naked. Because I’m too compulsive about finishing a book if I start it, I never listen to abridged versions. Now I’ll have to go get the book and read the whole thing.

for some reason i never find david sedaris to be as “laugh out loud funny” as i’m led to believe.. sure, there are a few moments that make me chuckle, but mostly i just feel awkward reading about his weird childhood and acquaintances. it’s still entertaining though.

This is the second David Sedaris book I’ve read, the first being Me Talk Pretty One Day. I have to say I was expecting a bit more going into reading this, I liked Me Talk Pretty One Day was much better. Naked seems almost sloppy or thrown together, still funny but definately lags in parts.

I am almost done with this book. I have never read a book that has made me laugh out loud before. Just for those moments alone I would suggest the book!

WORTH CONSUMING!

i didn’t know this was going to be short stories, or “essays” as he puts it. i don’t really like short stories. i find their only redeaming factor to be that i like to read chapters at a time and this way it seems like i accomplish more. that being said i did laugh at a bunch of the stories. my favorite was next of kin. very funny!

(completed November 2004)

I read Go Carolina from Me Talk Pretty One Day and expected to thoroughly enjoy more of Sedaris’ work. The stories about his family were fun, but hitchhiking and more seemed to drag forever. I think I’ll stick to Sedaris in small doses in the future.

WORTH CONSUMING!

November 2004 – I listened to this on tape from the library. Like his other books, this is very funny. Unlike the other books of his I have listened to, it is co-narrated with his sister Amy doing voices of many female characters. It’s an interesting added element. I don’t know why it struck me so much with this book, but David Sedaris was one freaky little kid.

This was enjoyable, but not life-affecting.

Funny in a totally smart way. The first piece, though, was not the best introduction to the book. I would start reading at page 7 instead…
