This is one of the two older Zatoichi movies I saw. I like this one better, the “chess player” story makes this one smarter, and funnier, than the other one I saw.

I don’t remember which Zatoichi movie the other one was, even. I think it was “On the Road” but reading the descriptions doesn’t help. He’s always travelling through a town where there are gangs harassing the citizens, and a girl in peril and . . .
