riddle me this: this is not the first bond book. that pleasure goes to “casino royale”. in this book james goes undercover as a thief. when he begins his operative he is in london. he tells “the bad guys” his real name. why do they not know who he is?

i find that for me the james bond books are about 20 pages out of 200 that are worth it. am i missing something? the writing is very basic. i feel like they would be better suited for young adults. (every once in awhile i do learn things. in this novel in particular my favorite champagne is mentioned).
