I wonder how I’m supposed to feel after watching Antichrist. When it ended, I knew I’d seen an important and impacting film. There really isn’t a way to deny that. The evidence is in every frame of the film, in all of the painful dialogue, in each movement of the very brave actors.
I don’t agree with a lot of it, of course. After all, “a crying woman is a scheming woman” is a ridiculously painful claim. And amongst the disagreement and the appalled feeling, there’s also a bit of confusion. I can’t pretend I understand everything Lars von Trier was trying to tell me, us, his audience…but I was incredibly drawn to figuring it out.
I cringed and gasped and put my hand over my mouth… Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it?
