Disappointing Sayers Imitation — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I wanted this book to be good. I love the Lord Peter mysteries, and was excited to find yet another.

Sadly, this falls far short of the originals. Not only is the story fairly predictable, it is also marred by the modern mania for immorality. I don’t care to read the lustful musings of even aged sinners! And I pity the author who attempts comedy through innuendo.

This book just felt dirty.

A story about this — 6 years ago

I decided to re-read this and see if I liked it any better the second time around. Answer: not really. It feels like a Sayers wannabe attempt, and too many obvious references to other books. I don’t know … it’s a crude imitation of the original. Decent enough story, but it made me so impatient, and that’s something that doesn’t happen with the other Wimsey books.
