Johnny Guitar: The Wild Noir West — 24 weeks ago
This movie is AWESOME. First of all, you can’t ask for a better cast. Mercedes McCambridge plays obsessed and crazy without quite going over the edge, and Sterling Hayden is note-perfect as the title character. But it’s Joan Crawford who grabs the audience’s attention and pretty much steals the show. She’s great; I was really impressed. And surprised I hadn’t seen her in any movies before…
Secondly, it’s a great combination of two classic American styles: film noir and the Western. (Also, it’s in colour.) Two genres that aren’t often combined, but they come together to tell an amazing story. And in the end, it’s a classic of both genres. I wish I had it on DVD, because I would definitely re-watch it.
